YA This sequel to God Stalk (Atheneum, 1982) is always intriguing but rather dreamlike and surreal, so much so at times that readers will have trouble following the action. Jame and her companion Marc have left behind the fantastic city of Tai-tastigon and gone in search of her twin, Torisen, who has become Highlord of the Kencyrath. Meanwhile Tori is trying to bring peace between the feuding families of the Kencyrath to unite them against the vast horde of Wastelanders who are invading Kencyr territory. He has recurring disturbing dreams of his dead father and supposedly dead sister Jamethiel, dreams which threaten his sanity, his control of the Kencyrath and eventually his life. There is no map, list of characters or glossary, and it is sometimes difficult to follow the movements of the characters and the sometimes confusing terminology. There is also a little more violence than is usual in fantasies, which may put off some readers. However, fans of God Stalk, one of the most inventive and original fantasies of recent years, will want to keep up with the unfolding mystery of the relationship between Tori and Jame.
