Caer Dathyl is in ruins, Math is dead, and Gwydion has been judged--and found innocent. It does not ease his guilt, however, and when the Pen Bardd gives him the option of giving up his Cymric powers and becoming a bard, he accepts.
But it is not as easy as the Pen Bardd thinks, and Gwydion enters the Bardic Academy with his Cymric powers intact. As a student, he is given a new name, Fidgen, and a journey that will take him to the five fifths of Glencairck and beyond. He will fight for the right to wear the Star of the Bards using music, magic, swords, and shape shifting. And he will battle himself as well, to be the man he wants to be, and not the monster he fears he might become.
