I've been an epee fencer for most of my adult life. 'Fencing families' are common in the sport—generation after generation of fencers in the same family. I'd wondered if there was a genetic component to the phenomenon. Perhaps inherited body type and quick reflexes was the cause. In this story, I've played with that idea.
