There are many ways to lose one's identity. Strip away family, your purpose in life, your very memories. Have it denied for you by a society that simply says you aren't allowed to be who you really are, to the point you may even deny it yourself. Even failure at a task that, for years, has come to identify you.
A month after the Armistice that ended the Great War, the last three witches of a program known as ADAM all stand under the weight of the ashes of Britain's victory, and their own personal failure to have any hand in it. Victoria, Millie and Elise were told they were going to make a difference, to help end a war the Allies were so desperate to win they turned to witchcraft. When that didn't happen, all they were left with at war's end was each other and no idea what to do next, or how to begin to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives.
On a cold December day, hope blooms for them once again, as they are given one final opportunity to prove themselves worthy of the name 'witch' and the magic they are still learning to wield. But this final hope is dimmed when Victoria goes missing, only to turn up elsewhere with no idea who she is or why she can do impossible things. To get her back, Millie and Elise will have to also learn to do seemingly impossible things, including accepting the truth that lies at the heart of the magic that might make it possible.
