Ever since she was a child, Wyverna of The Verdillion had been plagued by an insatiable hunger. Chiefest of all these hungers is the throne, which was always meant to be hers and yet belongs to her younger brother, King Nikoletze. In him, she sees someone weak, naive, and easily controlled – as did her mother, who paid dearly for maneuvering him to his position. After years of attempting to subjugate nearly the entire city into her control, Wyverna sees the perfect opportunity to strike and take what is hers. When factors out of her control come into play, however, she quickly realizes that she has bitten off more than she can chew.
Within her murderous and unquenchable thirst for power, Wyverna interferes with everything around her, from the secrets of a renowned courtesan and the owner of his house, to the romance between her closest confidantes. Something ancient stirs in the desert, however, and Wyverna discovers that even the throne cannot satisfy her endless hunger.
